Task Highlights

• Task 10: Project changes will be managed according to the plan for change management.
• Task 16: As the project manager and the team learn throughout the project, the project manager will need to see that this knowledge is shared for the benefit of the project and documented so the project artifacts can benefit the organization in the future. This task maps to Direct and Manage Project Work and Manage Project Knowledge.
• Task 17: This task aligns with Close Project or Phase in the Process Groups model.

Figure 4.1 is a visualization of the integration management processes from the Process Groups model. For each chapter in which Domain II processes are discussed, the Process Groups model is used to enhance understanding.

Note: The Process Groups model is rooted in plan-driven projects, but we also explain agile methods that achieve the same outcomes.

Core takeaway: The goal is to meet project requirements with urgency to deliver benefits and value for which the project was initiated.

Besides the five process groups, the Process Groups model identifies focus areas (often constraints), including:

• Integration
• Stakeholders
• Communications
• Resources
• Scope
• Schedule
• Cost
• Quality
• Risk
• Procurement

Figure 4.2 shows how these areas interact with process groups. Key insights:

• All categories have processes in planning and monitoring/controlling.
• Scope, schedule, and cost have no execution processes—those belong to the team. The PM monitors/controls.
• Stakeholder engagement has no closing process—it’s managed earlier in the phase/project.
• Integration Management is unique: It spans all process groups. The PM is always integrating.
